STOMPERS SHUT OUT KNICKS ON OPENING DAY

By Stompers Staff

Four Stompers pitchers combined to twirl a gem in a 4-0 opening-day victory over the Novato Knicks. Bryant Thornton got the start and pitched three shutout innings striking out four, followed by Jake Verwiel (W), who turned in three shutout innings of his own. Josh Albright shut down the Knicks in the middle innings allowing just one hit in two innings, and Raul Valdivia shut the door in the ninth. The Stompers' defense sparkled with shortstop Trent Abel making a few plays in a zero-error day behind Stomps' pitching.

On the offense side of the ball, Cuyler Zukowski scored the first run of the Stompers season on a first-inning error. Paul Contreras supplied the rest of the offense when he smashed a three-home run into the Left Field Oasis in the fourth frame.

The Stompers and the Knicks battle again tomorrow at 6:05, come out to Arnold Field or catch the action on Sonoma Stompers YouTube.
