STOMPERS COMPLETE 7-RUN COMEBACK, DEFEAT NAPA 11-9

SONOMA, Calif- The Sonoma Stompers took the field on Saturday Night celebrating Pride Night in front of another huge crowd at Palooza Park at Arnold Field.

Jacob Cox (1-0) took the mound for only the second start of his career. This time, against Napa, he struggled finding the strike zone early on.

Three walks and an error in the top of the 1st inning led to three Napa runs, giving them an early lead against a Stompers team that has been struggling over the first week of July.

Napa got 3 more runs in the top of the 2nd inning on a Josh Montelongo 3-run home run to double the lead, 6-0.

Cox was taken out of the game in the top of the 2nd inning, allowing all 6 runs, just 2 earned, while walking 5 and striking out just 1. Ethan Gibbons (1-2) came on and needed just 3 pitches to end the 2nd inning mercifully.

The Silverados got their first run off of Gibbons in the top of the third on an RBI double from Johnny Knight to give Napa a 7-0 lead.

The Stompers offense came alive in the bottom of the third inning against Napa right-hander Edward Perez (1-2). Rayson Romero and Nick Gotta opened the inning with back-to-back walks and Miles Williams was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rob DeAngelis then hit a 2-run double to put the Stompers on the board 7-2. Dondrei Hubbard followed with a 2-run single into centerfield to inch the Stompers closer 7-4. Brent Gillespie singled to put runners at the corners and Pedro Barrios bounced into a fielder’s choice to force Gillespie out at second but it scored Hubbard making it 7-5.

With still nobody out, Jacob Barfield doubled down the left field line to put 2 men in scoring position for Daniel Molinari who singled through the right side, scoring Barrios and Barfield, tying the game 7-7. Perez exited the game for Andrew Fernandez who stopped the bleeding but not soon enough as the Stompers had tied it up.

The offense picked up where it left off in the bottom of the 4th inning. with one out, Hubbard and Gillespie drew back-to-back walks to put 2 men on. Barrios then grounded into a fielder’s choice, forcing Gillespie out at second, putting runners at the corners. Barfield then delivered his second double of the night, this one a 2-run double, giving the Stompers their first lead of the game, 9-7. Molinari then drove in his 3rd run of the night with a base hit to score Barfield to make it 10-7 Stompers.

With 2 outs, Gotta hit a bouncer between first and second base which Malvin Nunez, the second baseman, fielded but his throw to first was wild, allowing Molinari to score and the Stompers to add on 11-7.

Napa scored twice more in the top of the 6th inning off Gibbons on a 2-run single by Nick Ultch, narrowing the Stompers lead 11-9 at which it would stay.

Connor Leedholm tossed 2 1/3 innings of 1-hit ball out of the bullpen, paving the way for the Stompers closer Ryan Richardson in the top of the 9th.

Richardson hit the first man he faced to bring the tying run to the plate in the 9th. In a 1-1 count, Nico Toni grounded into a 5-4-3 double play for the first two outs. Richardson then walked Bethancourt but got Knight to flyout to Williams to right to end the game.

The Stompers end their 2-game skid with an 11-9 win over Napa in convincing fashion, after coming back from down 7 runs.

The Stompers are back home at Palooza Park at Arnold Field on Tuesday night, 6:05 first pitch. Tickets can be purchased at stompersbaseball.com.

STOMPERS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT IN 14-9 LOSS IN SAN RAFAEL

SAN RAFAEL, Calif- The Sonoma Stompers traveled to San Rafael on Friday night to try and get back to their winning ways but the pitching was subpar and the Pacifics took advantage.

Vijay Patel (2-1) started for Manager Zack Pace but struggled with location throughout his start as the walks piled up.

San Rafael put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on RBI doubles from Axel Johnson and Ermindo Escobar to give the Pacifics an early lead.

The Stompers fired right back in the top of the 2nd inning on a pair of solo home runs from Brent Gillespie and Jacob Barfield to tie the game 2-2.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif-The Sonoma Stompers traveled to San Rafael for the first time this year Sunday afternoon and walked away with a convincing 6-1 win against their Pacific Association arch-rivals.

Jacob Cox (1-0) was Sunday’s emergency starter with Ethan Gibbons moved to the bullpen. The right-hander was expected to go just a few innings but he impressed on his birthday tossing 4 no-hit innings and got himself out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 5thinning to cap off the first professional start of his career. He tossed 5 2-hit inning while striking out 5 and walking just 2 on his way to his first victory of the season.

The Stompers offense got on the board just in time to earn Cox the win for his hard work in the top of the 5thinning against San Rafael starter Keenan Bartlett.

With one out, Nick Kern roped a ball into the left-center field gap for a stand-up double. Then, with two outs, Miles Williams scalded the first pitch he saw over the right field wall for his 3rd homerun of the season to give the Stompers a 2-0 lead.

The Stompers kept the long-ball coming in the top of the 7thinning when Rob DeAngelis hit a laser 3-run homerun to straight away right field off of San Rafael reliever Phil Rowland to open the lead up to 6-0.

San Rafael got their one and only run on a Corey Dempster solo shot to lead off the bottom of the 9th against Ryan Richardson but that was all and the Stompers played their first game without committing an error since June 5th and improve to 16-5 on the season.

STOMPERS 10 GAMES OVER .500 WITH WIN OVER SECOND PLACE SAN RAFAEL

SONOMA, Calif- The Sonoma Stompers needed every bit of contribution in a hard-fought dogfight against the San Rafael Pacifics and in the end came out of the pile victorious 5-4.

Vijay Patel (2-0) took the hill after his historic performance in his last start but he did not have his A-game against the Pacifics.

Patel hit Mike Annone to open the top of the 2nd inning who later came around to score on a Dante Biagini RBI to put San Rafael out to an early 1-0 lead.

In the home half of the 2nd inning Pedro Barrios lined a 1-out single through the infield for the first Stomper hit. Jacob Barfield, in his first start this year at first base, launched his 5th homerun of the season to left field which gave the Stompers a 2-1 lead.

Patel struggled in the top of the 5th inning allowing 3 runs. 2 on a 2-out 2-run flare double by Axel Johnson down the right field line; then an unearned run when Jimmy Lunardelli bounced to Nick Kern at third base who then threw it away to allow the run to score and give San Rafael a 4-2 lead.

The Stompers offense quickly answered in the last of the 5th inning. Kern redeemed himself with a leadoff single and advanced to second base on a Chip White (1-1) wild pitch. After Nick Gotta grounded to short and Miles Williams struck out, Rob DeAngelis was hit by a pitch. STOMPERS OUTLAST BRANDON PHILLIPS AND THE ADMIRALS IN 10-7 WIN

SONOMA, Calif- The Sonoma Stompers were able to get past Brandon Phillips and the Vallejo Admirals in a win that surely everyone in the lineup contributed to as they beat the Admirals 10-7.

Konner Arnold (4-0) has been a vital part of the 2019 Stompers starting rotation that has thrived in the month of June. He retired the Admirals in order in the first, including a Brandon Phillips flyout, lowering his heartrate and allowing him to finally breathe.

The Stompers got on the board first in the bottom of the 1stinning on a rather whacky play. On a 1-1 pitch, Miles Williams scorched a triple over the head of Chevy Clarke in centerfield. On the relay throw in, Tillman Pugh’s throw went wide of third base and out of play, allowing Williams to score and open the scoring 1-0.

Vallejo answered in the top of the second on a Wilkyns Jimenez 2-run mammoth homerun to left-center on the first pitch he saw of the 2019 season, putting the Admirals ahead 2-1.

The Stompers offense got to work against Jesse Remington (1-2) in the bottom half of the 2nd. Brent Gillespie led off the inning with a single into center and advanced to second on an error by Clarke in centerfield. Daniel Molinari then drove him in with an RBI single to right, tying the game 2-2. Walks to Nick Kern and Nick Gotta loaded the bases for Williams who hit a sacrifice fly to score Molinari and giving the Stompers the 3-2 lead. A Rob DeAngelis single loaded the bases for Dondrei Hubbard who destroyed a grand slam to left, blowing it open 7-2.

Vallejo tacked on two in the top of the 3rdon a Tillman Pugh solo shot and a Clarke RBI double, closing the gap 7-4.

The lead got narrower in the top of the 5th when Vlad Gomez hit a sacrifice fly to make it 7-5. Then even closer in the top of the 6thon Brandon Phillips’ RBI single to center, closing the Stompers lead 7-6.

Alex Leach was the 4thman to pitch for PJ Phillips and with a 0.00 ERA he has been unhittable, until now. The Stompers relentless offense collected 4 hits off of Leach including a Molinari RBI double to left, and a DeAngelis 2-run double to left, capping off a 3-run 7thand knocking Leach out after just 1/3 of an inning. Tyler Herr came in an slammed the door but the damage had already been done as the Stompers led 10-6 after 7.

The Admirals got one more run in the top of the 8thoff of Connor Leedholm on a Matt Eureste RBI single but that was all.

Ethan Gibbons worked a clean 2/3 to end the 8th and Ryan Richardson collected his 2nd save in as many opportunities to close the game out.

The Stompers end the home stand Friday night at 6:05 against the San Rafael Pacifcs and it’s also Avengers Night, so wear your favorite Avengers costume to the ballgame!
