Stompers Win on a Walk Off Wild Pitch!

The Lincoln Potters would travel to Sonoma to take on the Stompers in the second game of a three game series.

The Stompers would get off to a hot start scoring two runs in the first inning both on bases loaded walks.

For the Potters, they would answer right away in the top half of the second with a two run home run.

Orlando Leon Jr. would start for the Stompers and have a good outing giving up only two hits in four and two-thirds innings pitched.

The game would stay tied all the way until the ninth inning when the Potters would get three runs in the top half of the ninth inning to make the game 5-2.

The Stompers would not quit there though, rallying together runs on a few walks and a two-run double by Derek Tenney that tied the game up. The Stompers would end up walking it off on a wild pitch as Xabier Iparraguirre would come in to score.

The Stompers have a rivalry series against the Healdsburg Prune Packers this weekend. Tickets are available at stompersbaseball.com

Stompers Bats Continue to Come Alive

SONOMA - The Stompers have gotten off to a hot start in non-conference play, but in conference play they have had a tougher time.

The Stompers picked up a big win against the Mudcats on June 21 in comeback fashion as the Stompers would score two in the seventh inning and six more in the eighth, thanks to pinch hit RBIs from Logan Azem and Brandon Marion, picking up a 8-4 victory.

The Stompers bats have been solid up to this point, but the pitching has been subpar to start. The pitching, which resembles a small football roster, has shown signs of improvements in recent games against the Walnut Creek Crawdads on June 11,  and the Novato Knicks on June 16 and 17. A player to watch out of the bullpen is closer Sean Flowers, who has a 2.57 ERA with nine strikeouts in seven innings of work.

It’s not all bad for the Stompers, as their current record is 13-9 overall. The 12 wins have come from opponents in-conference and non-conference such as the Alameda Anchors, Novato Knicks, and Fresno Athletics. Highlights for the Stompers early in the season, have been the Martinez brothers who individually hit grand slams in the same game against the Alameda Anchors. This is the first time in franchise history that a pair of brothers have each hit a grandslam in a season let alone the same game.

Arnold Field has been electric since the start of the season with Athletics Hall of Famer, Dave Stewart and Sonoma Mayor, Sandra Lowe throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. The Stompers started the season with 685 fans in attendance on Opening night. Sonoma Little League Night and Pride Night, which are staple promotional nights, saw a combined 900 fans. Pride Night, a dedication to former Stompers pitcher, Sean Conroy, who was the first openly gay professional baseball player.

The Stompers will finish their three game series against the Mudcats on June 22 at 5pm in Solano. Returning back to Arnold Field on Friday and Saturday against the East Bay Admirals and Menlo Park Legends with a 6:05pm first pitch for both games. The Stompers have partnered with Parkpoint Health Clubs to bring Health and Wellness night to Arnold Field on Friday, June 23rd. Parkpoint Health Clubs is the official gym of the Sonoma Stompers. PHC features a pool, hot tubs, steam room, locker room, weight room, and group classes. Tickets for those games and all Stompers home games can be purchased at stompersbaseball.com.

Stompers Rally but Fall Short to the Admirals

The Stompers hosted the Admirals on Friday at Arnold Field.

The Admirals would get off to a hot start tallying one run in both the second and third but the Stompers would stomp back in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the fourth, the Stompers would score three thanks to a Jag Burden three-run home run that was hit 368 feet over the wall in right field.

The Admirals would not go away without a fight however, scoring two of their own in the sixth inning and retaking the lead at 4-3.

Stompers pitcher Riley Phelan would do a good job keeping it close, giving the Stompers 1.2 innings pitched and only allowing one hit.

The Stompers would be unable to score and the Admirals would tack on four more insurance runs in the top half of the ninth inning and ultimately the Admirals would take the 8-3 victory.

The Stompers and the Menlo Park Legends will face off here at Arnold Field with first pitch at 6:05. Tickets can be purchased at stompersbaseball.com. If you can’t join us at the ballpark, the game will be live on Mixlr.

Stompers Comeback to Beat the Solano Mudcats

The Sonoma Stompers hosted the Solano Mudcats on Wednesday for the middle game of a three-game series.

The Stompers would get off to a very slow start and the Mudcats would capitalize by scoring two runs in the first and another two runs in the fourth to quickly jump out to a 4-0 lead.

Sonoma would not go down without a fight however as they would come alive in the seventh and the eighth innings. The Stompers would get it going in the seventh, scoring a pair of runs, taking advantage of pitching mistakes by the Mudcats and then score on an RBI groundout from Jag Burden.

They would continue to rally and take the lead in the eighth inning on some exceptional bat work and great eyes from all Stompers batters as they would rally for six runs. Logan Azem was the highlight, driving in the go-ahead run with an RBI-single to give the Stompers a 5-4 lead. The Stompers would add on three runs after that.

Hayden Hall would come in for the Stompers and get the save and the Stompers would improve to 12-9 on the season.

Tomorrow’s game will be in Solano against the Mudcats to round out this three game series. If you want to catch that game, you can on Mixlr and catch it live with Michael Baribault.

Stompers sweep the Knicks in a two game series

The Sonoma Stompers and Novato Knicks faced off again for the backend of a quick two game series.

Stomper's pitching would be dominant to start the game as Bryant Thornton would only give up one hit in four and a third innings.

The Stompers would strike first in the third inning scoring two runs thanks to the Martinez brothers with some good base running and a hit by Tyler Martinez.

The Knicks would strike back in the seventh and score one but to no avail as the Stompers would score two of their own in the seventh.

Sean Flowers would come in and deal the last three outs and record the save for the Stompers pushing them to 11-8 on the season.

The Stompers will face the Solano Mudcats in a three-game series starting on Tuesday with the game on Wednesday at Arnold Field.

If you want to come to that game, you can purchase tickets at stompersbaseball.com and if you can’t join us in the ballpark we will have the game live with Michael Baribault on our Mixlr page.

Stompers dominate for their 10th win of the season

On Friday, the Stompers hosted the Novato Knicks in a non-league game at Arnold Field.

Both teams got off to a hot start as the Knicks rallied together a few hits and scored one in the first inning on an RBI single by Joey Taddie.

The Stompers would stomp back in the bottom half of the inning and score four of their own including a one-run triple from Xabier Iparraguire that was crushed to center field that was hit 408 feet!

The Knicks would try to scratch and claw their way back into the game scoring one in the third.

The Stompers would not let it get close though as they would score five more in the fourth highlighted by an Omar Gastelum two-run home run. Following the blast was an extra base hit from Wyatt Davis. They would extend the lead to 9-2.

The Stompers bats continued to stay hot as Logan Azem would rope a two-run triple down the right field in a three-run sixth inning to extend the lead to 12-2.

Sonoma would tack on one more in the seventh thanks to a Gastelum double and the Knicks would score one of their own for good measure in the eighth.

The final would be 13-3 as the Stompers would record their 10th win of the season.

The Sonoma Stompers will face the Novato Knicks again tomorrow for the last of a two game series. If you want to come to the game, you can purchase tickets at sonomabaseball.com. If you are unable to make it to the game, you can stream the game on our YouTube channel or on Mixlr.

Stompers drop home finale to the Knicks, 13-4.

Story written by Stompers intern Sam Basich

Serving as the season finale at home for the Stompers, the Novato Knicks made the short drive down to Arnold Field in Sonoma to attempt a season sweep against the Stompers in three contests.

The Knicks took control of the ballgame at a packed Arnold Field right from the get go, as multiple hitters were able to reach base, with center fielder Damone Hale ultimately coming across to score on a passed ball by pitcher Orlando Leon, who was just one pitch away from escaping the inning.

After drawing first blood, the Knicks came stabbing back in the second and third innings, bringing one more across to score in the second on yet another passed ball, this time with right fielder Wyatt Davis coming into score who’s name will come up here again shortly.  Leon got some help defensively after a dazzling double play turned by Alex Gouveia kept it at 2-0.

The third is where the Knicks busted the ballgame wide open, bringing five runs in to score. The first was an RBI single by catcher Donny Ratfield, followed by a long double with two outs by 1st baseman Joey Taddie. This double nearly cleared the previously loaded bases, with two more Novato Knicks coming in to score. Their fifth and final run of the third was driven in by second baseman Riley Cronin, leaving the game at 7-0 through three.

Sadly, the rout would continue, when shortstop Anthony Pomilia coming in to score for the Knicks on an RBI Triple by right fielder Wyatt Davis made the score 8-0.

After 3 more Novato Knick runs in the 5th to bring the score to 11-0, the Stomper hitters would finally stop the bleeding. Alex Gouveia, the shortstop and leading average hitter for the stompers, drove in the catcher, Christian Reynolds with the bases loaded. The very next batter, “funky” Josh Medina grounded into a fielder's choice, with 1st baseman Garrett James coming across for the second run in the inning. The rally would come to a close after run number three though, with Alex Leopard scoring on a base knock by designated hitter Davis Cop. The score would stick at 11-3 until the top of the 8th inning.

With the bases loaded and nobody out, the Stompers would elect to take the easy outs, as two runs would score for the Knicks on consecutive ground outs into a fielder’s choice.

The Stompers would gain one final run back after a groundout by Garret James brought in the base stealing Christian Reynolds for the Stompers fourth run of the ballgame.

The score would stay at a final of 13-4 in favor of the Novato Knicks.

With that, the Stompers end the season with a final home record of 14-16, with two regular season games on the road left to go.

Tune in next Summer to a new and improved squad of Stompers looking to turn things around in 2023.

Stompers dominate Potters for an 8-2 win Friday night

Story written by Stompers intern Isaac Sullivan

On Bark in the Park Day, dogs howled and fans hollered as the Stompers cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Lincoln Potters, who delivered a big blow to their playoff hopes.

Despite arriving just 30 minutes before the first pitch, the Potters quickly began their ⁰offensive attack. After an error and a single, Nolan McCarthy doubled in a run, and the Potters had the early lead.

Potters' pitcher Anthony Perez had previously dominated the Stompers, but the first inning was a struggle for Perez. After a walk, a single from Mikey Bell, and another walk, the Stompers had the bases loaded. Perez continued to miss the strike zone, as he forced in two runs with a hit batter and a walk. After an action-filled first inning, the Stompers found themselves up 2-1.

The game had become pitching dominated, but the Stompers changed that in the bottom of the fifth. Bell began the inning with his third single of the game, and Alex Gouveia followed with a single of his own. Jack Gallagher, who has been struggling offensively, broke through with a double to provide an insurance run. Joshua Medina provided another insurance run with a ground out. Nick Mueller joined the hitting parade with a single, and that improved the Stompers lead to 5-1. The Stompers handed Perez his worst start of the season.

Sadly, for the Potters, Bell struck again. After a lead-off walk by Alex Leopard, Bell crushed a two-run home run. Bell had now collected four hits in the game, and the lead was now 7-1.

Base runners were in abundance for the Stompers in the seventh and eighth inning, including a bases loaded situation with no outs, but they could only manage to add one more run. The Stompers held an 8-1 lead heading into the final inning.

The Potters attempted to make an improbable comeback, but they could only muster one run. The Stompers finished off the 8-2 victory, and began the season's closing weekend home stand with a great win.
The final Stompers home game is Saturday night at 6:05 against the Novato Knicks. Fans can purchase tickets here.
